Don James Golf Classic raises over $160,000 for Kirkland Boys & Girls Club!
The Kirkland Boys & Girls Club, presented by Cobalt Mortgage, hosted their 19th Annual Don James Golf Classic at the Golf Club at Newcastle on Friday the 14th. They sold out both courses at the course with 288 golfers and 38 sponsors for the big event and raised over $160,000 for community youth programs at the KBGC – a record-setting year!
The event was again presented by Cobalt Mortgage, headquartered in Kirkland, for its 10th year now along with media sponsors ROOT Sports and KJR Sports Radio. The noon shotgun start was complete with fun and entertaining contests, raffles and hole-in-one giveaways, thanks to our generous sponsors. After playing the rounds, the golfers came in for a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by dinner and the live auction featuring unique one-of-a-kind items.
During the auction, the guests had the opportunity to hear from former national championship coach of the Washington Huskies, Don James, KJR Sports Radio personality, Dave “Softy” Mahler, auctioneer extraordinaire, Jim Jungers, and our Keynote Speaker, Club mother and Board Member Jennifer LeMond. Cobalt Mortgage President Keith Tibbles took the stage to surprise the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club with a $20,000 check to start the night off with a bang. Executive Director of the KBGC, Doug Wozeniak, later stated, “That is the largest single gift the Club has received in close to five years now. The announcement of the $20k gift led us to break all records for this year’s tournament fundraising efforts, proceeds that will allow for hundreds of kids to utilize our services.”
The event was a success thanks to the many sponsors, donors, attendees, and volunteers. Please see Kirkland.positiveplace.org for a full list of sponsors for this event.
